The Front Page

Today I saw the front page of the New York Times, and the photo astounded me. There they were, President-elect Obama and (gasp) Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an almost embrace, and there were no weapons, verbal or otherwise, involved! If you had asked anyone 18 months ago if this was possible, people would have scoffed and said, "Oh, Hillary will never play second fiddle!" But, there it was, on the cover of the NY Times.

Now, in keeping with my usual and somewhat mad pop-political comparisons, this seems like the Spice Girls reunion. Follow me here. Ginger Spice gets kicked out of/leaves the group, and Posh Spice becomes an international sensation. Then, the reunion tour comes, and Ginger can no longer be front and center the entire performance. The fan base now wants Posh, but Ginger still participates in the tour. Why? Oh darlings, it's simple. Who could blame her?

Fame. Money. Fans. Power. And a stadium full of supporters. Sound familiar? Except Ginger wore funkier clothes.

If you wanna be my lover...
